A continuation of our previous newsletter, “Profitable Pathways: Is it Possible to Make a Living in Web3?”, this time around we’re asking something that isn’t voiced very often.
What about people who aren’t artists, creators, or traders?
Specifically, if someone isn’t an artist, and doesn’t have the skillset (or even the interest) in trading, is there still room for them to carve out a niche and make a living in web3? This is a question we’ve heard time and time again. Thankfully, even in this small, beaten-down market, there remains a plethora of practical opportunities still in demand.
So today, we’re going to share 10 ways that people who are not interested in being an NFT creator or trader are still managing to focus their talents and thrive in a web3 world.
10 Essential Jobs in Web3 Today
1. Programmers
The essential workforce driving the web3 ecosystem forward, programmers are behind all the code that powers, scales, and secures the space. Of special importance is Solidity, the language behind smart contracts on Ethereum, and JavaScript, which is commonly used for backend development. Depending on the blockchain one wishes to pursue, other languages may be of importance as well. For instance, Solana uses Rust rather than Solidity.
2. Designers (Graphic, UI, UX)
Playing a crucial role in everything we interact with, designers are responsible for creating visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces and assets that help abstract away complexities and make new technology accessible and appealing to a wider audience.
If you’ve ever taken a glimpse at the clunky, unintuitive, and unsightly state of the space today, you’d have to agree that there is a massive need for their services.
3. Content Creators
Seeking to educate, inform, and entertain the public about NFTs & crypto, content creation comes in many forms: from newsletters such as this, to podcasts, and videos. The most common delivery mechanisms for web3 content are often discovered through Twitter threads, or delivered straight to your inbox. Content creation, done well, helps to demystify complex concepts and technologies, foster a better understanding of the ecosystem, and drive adoption.
4. Editors
An editor’s work is invisible when executed well.
Editors have to ensure that content is accurate, coherent, and well-structured. Great editors refine content, enhancing its readability and impact, while preserving the original creator's voice and linguistic style.
While I passionately believe that a good editor can go a long way, advances in AI technology are gradually replacing many people’s need for one. With time, it is expected that this job will fall to the wayside: first for casual writers, and eventually, even copy editors and other highly specialized fields.
5. Web3 Advisors for Web2 Businesses
As any number of disastrous launches by big brands over the past year can tell you, bridging the gap from web2 to web3 technologies and marketing is no small feat. Web3 advisors for web2 businesses help to guide companies through the transition onto the blockchain, as well as how to adapt to highly insular communities and a new technological landscape. There are many means of specialization for advisors, including crypto, NFTs, DeFi, and blockchain technologies.
While this may seem like a highly specialized job, it is also highly democratized. Anyone with enough time and insight in the space may potentially have what it takes to thrive in this field.
6. Analytics
Analytics professionals are essential for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to reveal valuable insights and trends which can then inform decision making. Being able to track key performance indicators, monitor trends, and identify growth opportunities are all valuable information for any business or creator to have, as those who can harness actionable intelligence and meta are much more likely to thrive in the space.
7. Community Managers
The bridge between a project and its audience, community managers foster engagement, communication, and trust within the community. Their job duties are vast, and most wear many hats: curating and managing Discord, tending to social media channels, exploring communication platforms, addressing and resolving disputes, and making sure that their members feel heard and valued. Quite simply, they are the backbone of any successful web3 project.
While community managers have been hit especially hard at the moment, it is important to remember that public-facing individuals who can help moderate and engage with a community will always be in need. Furthermore, when the bear market returns, it is likely that they will be in a strong position to negotiate for better salaries and benefits.
8. AI Experts
Perhaps one of the most quickly developing and promising fields, AI is a natural match for web3. Whether it be related to art, code analysis, writing, content curation, editing, analytics, or more, AI is shaping the space around us and driving innovation in the industry.
As the past few months have shown, AI will continue to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with technology. Those who learn how to optimize it, like many are already doing with ChatGPT and AutoGPT, stand to find themselves in a very favorable position.
9. Builders
A bit of a catch-all term, builders are responsible for all of the tools and platforms we interact with in the space today. These are the people establishing the infrastructure that serves all of web3. Their influence is wide and varied and can be seen in NFT marketplaces, cryptocurrency exchanges, smart-contract generators, art generators, dapps, wallets, security services, and more. Builders come in many forms, although they are often engineers, programmers, founders, inventors, and innovators.
10. Referrers & Affiliates
Perhaps the least explored option on this list, referrers & affiliates help propagate the web3 environment that incentivize growing the space. While often regarded through the dubious lens of spam and invite contests, this is a field that has not been explored to great effect as of yet.
That being said, many people are finally starting to wake up to their potential to drive growth in the industry. Those who can bring attention to their project while simultaneously giving people a reason to share it are on the right path.

Final Thoughts
In conclusion, the web3 ecosystem, even today, offers a number of opportunities. These roles extend beyond creators and demonstrate that the web3 world is not solely limited to artists and traders.
As the industry continues to evolve and expand, there is ample room for a wide range of professionals to carve out their niche and contribute to the growth of this exciting and innovative space.
The potential to make a living in this ever-growing decentralized future is more attainable than ever.
